If you look at our hour-by-hour itinerary, you'll see the day doesn't end with the last snorkel: it ends at Isla Ranchería, a small island beside Coiba where the only task left is doing nothing. Sand, shade, warm water and that national-park silence no resort can buy. Here's why we chose it as the day's closing act.
Where it is and why it's special
Isla Ranchería — also known to many as Coibita — is one of the islands that flank Coiba inside the national park. Because it sits inside a UNESCO World Heritage protected area, its beach remains the way Pacific beaches were before mass tourism: no buildings, no vendors, no music — just the island.
The perfect moment of the day
We arrive after the third snorkel, pleasantly tired and with a memory full of turtles. It's the hour when the sun starts to drop, the light turns golden and the water at the shore is at its warmest. Half an hour of beach at that moment is worth more than two in the morning — which is exactly why the itinerary saves it for last.
What to do at Ranchería (spoiler: very little, and that's the point)
Swim in calm water without fins or mask, walk the shoreline hunting for shells and hermit crabs, take the beach photos your group has been waiting for all day, or simply lie down on the sand. If you have energy left, the water at the shore is so clear you can sometimes spot fish with no gear at all.

Can you visit on your own?
Ranchería sits inside the national park, so the same rules as Coiba apply: you arrive by authorized boat with the park fee paid. There are no ferries or independent public access — the practical way to see it is on a tour like ours, where the stop is already included in the day's price.
Tips to enjoy it fully
Bring a towel and reef-safe sunscreen (the sun is still strong at that hour), keep your sandals handy on the boat, and save some phone battery for this stop — the golden afternoon shots are the ones that end up as wallpapers. And as everywhere in the park: we take only photos and leave only footprints.
